“Without a plan the people perish.”
Do you want to live a life that’s fruitful & full of purpose? Planning is essential.
Especially how we plan our days & week.
What the best way to eat an elephant? One bite at a time. It’s essential we are taking small bites at tackling our life changing goals.
Here is a practical insight into how I personally plan my week to ensure I set myself up for success. My heart is you learn and live each day with maximum purpose.
Attached above is my weekly planner sheet.
Starting from the BOTTOM LEFT corner you can see the heading ‘weekly goals.’ Here you can set 3 goals you want to achieve for the week.
Moving to the top left corner you may notice the days start from ‘Sunday’ & then finish on ‘Friday’. One of my secrets to performing at a high level is I take a day off each week (Saturday) where I purposefully switch off, rest & reflect on the incredible work that has been done during the week. This helps me come refreshed to start my week ahead of the game on Sunday & finish strong come Friday.
Each day has ‘purpose points’ and a list of 3. These are 3 things you want to achieve each day & are to be filled in PRIOR to the commencement of that day (ie: fill out Friday’s purpose points on Thursday night). Ensure the purpose points you set help achieve the 3 weekly goals on the bottom left of the page.
‘WDILT’ stands for ‘What did I learn today’. This is a question I ask myself at the end of every day and write down something simple. Its crazy to look back at learnings from years ago & see the compounded growth in what you learn!
The weekly review consists of questions you ask yourself each week to help you review on a deeper level how your week was.
At the bottom of the sheet there are 3 words (attitude, effort & excellence). These are 3 important variables we CAN control in our weeks & I score myself out of 10 each week on them. It’s a great checkpoint to ensure I’m giving my best effort each week.
To ensure success as you plan your week here are some tips:
- Be CONSISTENT with your planning & reflection
- Make sure all goals you set are SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant & time-bound). Keep them simple.
- Be raw & honest as you reflect on your days learnings and your weekly reviews.
